Engineering Manager – Robotics Mechatronics Systems

Salary: ¥16m – ¥19m l £80k – £90k l $100k – $120k l €95k – €105k

Location: Tokyo, Japan (Relocation / Visa Support Available)

We are partnering with a global robotics company at the forefront of warehouse automation to help hire an Engineering Manager with a strong mechatronics background.

This organisation is building intelligent robotic platforms designed to make demanding industrial work safer and more efficient. Their systems operate in real logistics environments, combining robotics hardware, software, and automation to deliver scalable solutions for global customers.

They are now looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional mechatronics team responsible for delivering critical subsystems that power robotic automation platforms.

The Opportunity

This is a leadership role where you will guide a team of mechanical and electrical engineers developing production-ready robotic hardware. You will help shape how complex robotic subsystems are designed, validated, and brought into manufacturing.

You will play a key role in ensuring robotics platforms are not only innovative but reliable, manufacturable, and ready for large-scale deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering squad
  • Mentor engineers through regular coaching, feedback, and development
  • Foster a collaborative culture built around ownership, trust, and technical excellence

Delivery & Execution

  • Own delivery of key robotics subsystems from concept through validation and production readiness
  • Translate technical strategy into clear execution plans
  • Manage priorities, risks, and trade-offs while maintaining strong engineering standards

Technical Stewardship

  • Provide technical direction for mechanical and electrical system design
  • Ensure robust engineering practices across design, testing, reliability, and incident response
  • Drive continuous improvements in system quality and long-term maintainability

What You’ll Be Working On

The team focuses on robotic hardware subsystems used in large-scale automation platforms, including systems such as:

  • Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
  • Robotic storage and retrieval platforms
  • Robotic elevators and material movement systems
  • Battery exchange and energy systems

The squad owns these subsystems end-to-end—from concept development and feature upgrades to validation and production readiness—while working closely with supply chain, manufacturing, and operations teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience delivering complex robotics or electromechanical systems
  • Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams
  • Background in mechanical–electrical integration and system reliability
  • Experience working with manufacturing, supply chain, and product delivery environments
  • Track record of building robust, production-ready engineering systems

Why This Role

This is a rare opportunity to lead engineering teams developing real robotic systems deployed at scale in industrial environments. You’ll work at the intersection of robotics innovation, manufacturing, and global logistics automation.

The company offers:

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support
  • A collaborative and international engineering environment
  • The chance to work on cutting-edge robotics platforms used in the real world

If you’re an engineering leader passionate about bringing complex robotic systems from concept into production, we would love to hear from you.
